For the first time in PFA history a position in the Championship Team of the Year has been shared by two players, Middlesbrough‘s Daniel Ayala and Hull City‘s Michael Dawson.

The team was entirely voted for by fellow Championship players so there cannot be any accusations of dodgy goings on in terms of this but it is certainly remarkable that two centre backs received the exact same amount of praise from their fellow professionals.

Ayala has enjoyed a fantastic season at the Riverside with Aitor Karanka’s promotion-chasing team, scoring three goals, he has also won 49 tackles and 111 headed duels in English football’s second tier.

Former Tottenham Hotspur player, Dawson, is now in his second season at the KC Stadium following relegation from the Premier League last year, creating six chances and winning 118 headed duels.

Dawson was the only Hull player to be selected in the XI with Burnley dominating the side with Tom Heaton, Michael Keane, Joey Barton and Andre Gray all winning enough votes.

The rest of the team was composed of Middlesbrough’s George Friend and Adam Clayton, Fulham’s Ross McCormack, Sheffield Wednesday’s Barry Bannan, Brentford’s Alan Judge and Brighton and Hove Albion full-back Bruno.

Middlesbrough are currently two points clear at the top of the Championship with Burnley and Brighton just behind them on the same amount of points.

Middlesbrough have created 425 chances in the Championship this season.
